Apple App Store, iPhone 4 awarded Guinness World Records

Info: Apple announced to give $10,000 iTunes gift card to the one who would download 10th billion app from app store. Daughter of a UK resident Gail Davis won this after she downloaded a free game called Paper Glider.

As we all know that Apple’s App store is a big hit with over 10 billion downloads to date. This is not at all a surprise that Apple’s App Store, the iPhone 4 and some iOS games like Angry Birds have been awarded Guinness world records, including the iPhone 4 being named the fastest-selling portable gaming system. Gaz Deaves, Guinness World Records’ gaming editor says
The release of the iPhone has not just changed the mobile industry, but the video game world too, With the never-ending App Store selection and an intuitive device, Apple has created a gigantic new space for itself in the casual games genre that literally brings entertainment to users wherever they may be.

No wonder why iPhone 4 has given such importance because it sold 1.5 million handsets on its first day of release 24th June, 2010. And App Store? Well, With over 6.5 billion downloads since its launch in July 2008, the Apple App Store is the most popular downloadable app service in the world and it has reached 1o billion mark. 

Talking about the iOS games, Angry Birds has been named as the top paid app in most of the countries. Since it’s release in December 2009, Angry Birds was download 6.5 million times from the App store.

Plants vs. Zombies, “with more than 300,000 paid downloads in its first nine days on sale in February 2010” was noted as the world’s fastest-selling iPhone/iPod strategy game. The game is also the world’s highest-grossing strategy game launch in the history of Apple’s App Store, Guinness said, generating about $1 million for developer PopCap in just over a week.

No wonder iOS apps are really interesting and addictive and are downloaded and played all over the world at every age group. Being awarded as Guinness World Record was not surprising.
