Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said he was saddened by the fate of late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, who was brutally killed after being ousted by his opponents.
“I was saddened by Gaddafi’s fate being the way it was,” Erdoğan told a group of journalists accompanying him during his visit to Iran on Wednesday.
In the final episode of the Libyan uprising, which began in February 2011 and ended the 42-year leadership of Libya’s leader, Gaddafi was killed on Oct. 20 after fighters for the National Transitional Council (NTC) captured his last stronghold and hometown of Sirte. His captors found him hiding in a drainage culvert, and amateur video footage showed a dazed and bloodied Gaddafi being manhandled by an angry crowd. Minutes later he was dead.
His body was put on public display in a cold storage locker in a Misrata warehouse for four days before he was buried in an unmarked grave in late October.
