OmniVision’s Low Light Camera for Budget Smartphones

Android has always made a record in making the smartest android devices with excellent functionality and applications and mainly, budget smartphones.

But, among all these budget smartphones, there lies the biggest weakness, that is, a weak camera.

But, there is a solution to every problem and technology makes it much easier. Right??

Yeah it does.

OmniVision brings the all new 5MP BSI low light cameras to affordable devices. The OV5645’s main target is affordable smartphones and still delivers good low light performance, and it is also compatible with most of the baseband chips and allows for a secondary front camera.

It is built using 1.4-micron OmniBSI pixel architecture. It records 720p high definition video at 60 frames per second and 1080p at 30 fps.

Most importantly, let me reveal the secret of this snapper :

The snapper’s 720p HD video is captured in full field-of-view (FOV) with 2 x 2 binning, which doubles the sensitivity and improves the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Additionally, a unique post-binning, re-sampling filter function removes zigzag artifacts around slant edges and minimizes spatial artifacts to deliver even sharper, crisper color images.

The new camera is available for sample now but it will start production during early 2013 and is reported to be quite affordable.
