Liverpool vs Sporting Braga – 17 March 2011

Liverpool face Braga in the second leg of their Europa League round of 16 clash at Anfield today. Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat in Portugal and they will need a big performance to qualify for the last 8 of the competition.

Reds will be without their captain Steven Gerrard who is currently recovering from a groin surgery. Daniel Agger who has missed last three games for Liverpool is expected to be involved. Young midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is back in training but the game against Braga has come just too early for the promising young defender. Defensive duo of Fabio Aurelio and Martin Kelly are also missing for Reds. Luis Suarez who has impressed in recent matches is ineligible to play. Record signing Andy Carroll is again expected to be involved on the subs bench as the young forward continues to regain full fitness after serious thigh problem. Joe Cole will have another opportunity to impress as he is set to make into the first eleven today.

Braga who impressed against Liverpool in the first leg are boosted by the news that their captain Vandinho has recovered from a thigh which has ruled him from action for the past month. Kaka who forcefully stroked Carroll on his nose with his elbow is also expected to shake off his injury. Alan who scored from the penalty spot in the first leg is also expected to start. Custodio and Elderson who missed the first leg in Portugal are confirm absentees from the Braga squad.
