A statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee (1807 – 1870) was knocked off it’s base in Montgomery, Alabama and a statue of a Confederate soldier in Mobile was affected with vandalism, both around the same time Birmingham city crews were removing a Confederate monument downtown during Monday night.
Four people have been charged with criminal mischief in the toppling of the statue located in Montgomery, that was in front of a public high school.
A 20-year-old man was arrested as he spray painted the statue of Admiral Raphael Semmes in downtown Mobile, although he has not been charged, Mobile police stated.
There has been a movement as well as debates whether Confederate statues and monuments from cities throughout the nation should be removed or not.
The recent push for the removal of these such monuments caught attention after the death of George Floyd which has further led riots throughout the country targeting a number of monuments unrelated to Confederates.
