UN general assembly

38 abstentions compared to 34 abstentions before on Ukraine Russia issue

On Thursday, UN General Assembly adopted Resolution A/ES-11/L.2 on the Humanitarian consequences of the “aggression” against Ukraine as tabled by the following graph:

Ukraine and large cross-regional group and supported by the EU & its Member States.

However, these results show that the number of countries on the absentations side increased in favor of Russia compared to the earlier voting that took place on 2 March 2022 with regards to the UN General Assembly vote on Russian aggression against Ukraine. There were 141 who condemned Russia’s actions compared to 140 who condemned today.

Russia seems to be gaining a diplomatic advantage over NATO.

While the 5 countries who opposed the resolution have remained unchanged, the abstentions from major world powers like China and India also remained unchanged.
