At least 2,500 – 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers have died in the war against Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday.
The Ukrainian army has about 10,000 injured soldiers, Zelensky said, adding that “hard to say how many will survive”. The number of civilian deaths after Russians blocked some cities is currently unknown, as the towns are “all destroyed” and there are “no people there,” Zelensky leader told CNN.
Russia has disputed the figures provided by Zelensky in the daily briefing.
“In Mariupol alone, the losses of the Ukrainian group amounted to more than 4,000 people,” said Russian Defence Ministry said.
“The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation has reliable data on the true losses of the Ukrainian army, national guard and joined foreign mercenaries, which Zelensky is afraid to tell the people of Ukraine. As of today, the irreplaceable losses amount to 23,367 people,” Russian Defence Ministry added.
