“Around 1,300” Ukrainian troops have been killed since Russia started its special operation in Ukraine from 24 February according to the country’s President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday as Russian forces closed in on the capital Kyiv.
Zelensky provided the figure at a media briefing, the first time country had given such a toll since the beginning of the battle.
On March 2 Russia said it had lost almost 500 soldiers but is yet to update the figure since.
