Three people were killed after a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening on U.S. Highway 29 at Tucapau Road in Wellford, Spartanburg County.
Wellford Police Department said that speed resulted in the crash and that the crash was completely avoidable.
The victims have been identified as Megan Jackson Barnett, 30, Briley Diann Barnett, 6, of Wellford, and Jackolane Mattison, 43, of Lyman.
Barnett worked as a teacher’s assistant at Wellford Academy of Science and Technology and her daughter Briley was a first grade student there.
The school district said about the deaths: “Our school district is heartbroken over the loss of these two precious members of our Wellford Academy and District Five family.”
