Anatoly Chubais, one of Russia’s liberal reformists of the 90s and longest-serving officials, has stepped down from his post of climate envoy and left the country.
Chubais is credited for privatization in Russia as an influential member of Boris Yeltsin’s administration in the early 1990s. For this reason, he is also viewed as a globalist and despised by the overwhelming majority of the people in Russia.
To the average Russian, his departure will be perceived as a sign that Putin is on the right track.
He was opposed to Russia’s ongoing military operation in Ukraine.
